Experience the threshold between Shabbat and our community Havdalah by awakening our senses during this contemplative walk along the river.
Through this slow, purposeful, mindful practice you’ll deepen your relationship with Jewish ritual, yourself, and the land you inhabit. After some guided breathing and gentle movement, we'll amble along the trail, awakening our senses to the living Earth in this present moment and enjoying the gift of rest in the final moments of Shabbat.
About PurimFest: Share in a weekend of inspiring, radical, creative, extravagant collaboration in ritual, arts, food, dancing, and general ruckus to celebrate the rich holiday of Purim. With the Purim story comes questions about power, class, and division. And, in OUR home-written Purimshpiel,* Mordechai unionizes against the ruling class! The theme this weekend will be celebrating survival, exploring solidarity in communities who face threats to our cultures & lives, and taking joy in our existence.
From the Jewish Community Alliance, we will be carpooling to the trailhead.
IMPORTANT EVENT INFORMATION
If there is dangerous weather or temperature, we will hold an indoor nature-based meditation.
We will need winter attire and appropriate shoes for uneven terrain. We also suggest bringing boot spikes and whatever you would like to bring to be warm and cozy.
Please follow @purimfestportland for updates about the event.
ACCESSIBILITY NOTE
Public Transporation: You can get to the Jewish Community Alliance via the 9A/9B bus line.
Trail: Our walk will be slow and meandering, this is not a hike. You will need to be able to walk up and down a steep stone staircase at the beginning and end of our walk. There is a handrail to support you in doing so.
Sensory Activities: For about 15 minutes, participants will be asked to sit in silence and stillness to the best of their ability. Throughout the meditation, participants will be invited to explore the space using their senses of touch, sight, and sound. Participation in any of these activities is not required and can be adapted for those with sensory impairments.
Restrooms: There are no restrooms at the trailhead or along the trail.
